Because this anvil does not have the word "ENGLAND" stamped on it, the date of manufacture should be before 1890. This Peter Wright was the next style made after 1860. Below the weight marks are the numbers, "5003" and the letter "V". The weight marks "2-1-0" which is the English Stonewieight for 252 lbs. The trademark reads as follows: "PETER, WRIGHT, PATENT, MADE IN ENGLAND, SOLID WROUGHT (in the shape of a circle)". The anvil's markings and manufacturing characteristics indicate that this anvil was made in the early 1900s. The hardie and pritchel hole look brand new. A close look at the anvil's face will tell you this anvil is about as nice as they get. The edges are extra clean with only one minor chip towards the rear and a shallow torch cut on the heel. The anvil's face is hard, flat and clean. This Peter Wright would not only look great in the blacksmith shop, it would work great too. Peter Wright, is the most recognized anvil in world.
